The best shoes for squats are those weightlifting shoes, so shoes with elevated heels. This simply because these shoes provide the lifter with better balance. Also most people tend to have poor hip mobility and lack ankle flexibility, thus meaning they are unable to squat below 90 degrees.

You might be one of those people whenever squatting to reach down, you end up tip-toeing when in a deep squatted position. So whenever you squat below 90 degrees your heels tend to rise off the ground. This is a sign of poor ankle flexibility. Some unfortunate people’s heels rise even when their knees are above the 90 degree angle.

Deeps squats or other know as ass to the grass squats (ATG squats) promotes better gains. Better gains mean more muscle development and more strength gains. If you cannot do ATG squats then seriously think about purchasing weightlifting shoes. Do not rob yourself of making optimal gains.
