Best Weighted Vest Features

What features do you look for before purchasing a weighted vest? We have highlighted the most important features that make the best weight vest in the comparison table above.

If you are unsure on what these features mean, don’t worry as we explain each one in more depth below:

Average Rating

Average Rating is a combination of customer ratings, reviews and our opinions based on product testing. Overall average rating will help you determine the best weighted vest.

Maximum Weighted Vests Capacity

This is the maximum weight (kg) the vest is available in. Maximum Vest Weight Capacity is an important feature for those striving to to make their training intense. It is also a feature to consider if you are investing in a weighted vest for long term use. The heavier the weight capacity the more progression one can make.

Adjustable Weight

This means you have the ability to change or adjust the increment of weights on the vest. This feature is a must have for those starting to add a weighted vest into their workouts for the first time.

You can start off light and then progress by adding small increment of weight each time.

It also for those at an intermediate and advanced fitness level. Adjustable weighted vests are the best type of training vest as it gives you full control of your own progression.

Level of Padding

Level of padding ensures that the vest is well padded and sustains good durability.

Only the best weighted vest have high levels of padding. Padding prevents any metal from the weight piercing through the material, as this could put the vest out of use.

Weighted Vests Comfort

The comfortability of wearing a weighted vest. This feature is generally under looked but it is in fact an integral aspect to have on a weight vest.

You can potentially train with a weighted vest for hours and having a weight vest that digs into your back does not motivate you to train.

The best weighted vest are ones that are worn with great comfort. It should feel as if you are wearing a typical jacket on the exception that it is weighted.

The best weighted vests are the most comfortable weighted vests. They should enable the user to train with great intensity for long periods without any discomfort.

The Benefits of Using a Weighted Vest

What is a weight vest? And how can you benefit from using a weighted vest? These specialised exercise vests are vests that have a particular weight load attached to them. Very similar to ankle weights or wrist weights except you wear them like wearing an item of clothing.

Nowadays you wear these weighted vest just like any piece of clothing. Before when weighted vest were invented they were priced so high and they were extremely bulky. You would look like a mutant ninja turtle!

The idea of using a weighted vest is mainly for training purposes. There are however some weighted vests that weigh a few kilos that can be worn without anyone noticing.

This means you can wear it discretely and go about your regular daily activities. Little does anyone know that you are constantly training and burning more calories.

So what is the actual benefit of wearing a weightvest? When you have additional weight on your body, the activity that one is trying to do becomes more difficult as there is additional resistance.

The human body is an incredible thing as in time, with this additional weight the body still strives and continues to go on. By wearing a weighted vest your body adapts to the additional weight by becoming stronger.

What used to feel difficult with the weighted vest begins to feel easy. The muscles on your body has adapted to the extra weight.

To put it simply wearing a weighted vest will increase your overall body strength and muscle endurance. Weighted vests have a reputation to enhance one’s speed. Depending on the occasion of when you wear the weight vest, will determine the specific strength that one will gain.

Weighted Running Vests

All of the weighted vests above in the comparison table are suited for running. Running while wearing a weighted vest will hugely increase the intensity of your workout. This will improve body balance, strength, agility and even speed. Speed can only improve when sprinting with the weight vest.

You can start your run with a small load on the weighted vest. Take it slow and progressively add more weight as you go along. The RDX weighted vest and the We R sports vest are fantastic for adjusting weight.

Weighted Vest Crossfit?

Can you use a weighted vest for crossfit? The question should be why are you not wearing a weighted vest during your crossfit workout? Crossfit includes a bunch of functional exercises and many include bodyweight exercises. Increase the intensity and build more muscle and lose more fat by wearing a weighted vest.

Using Your Weighted Vest Every Day

Before going further into the types of weight vest training to target specific muscle groups one should know the appropriate time when to use the weight vest.

You can pretty much wear a weight vest in any occasion, for example if the vest isn’t too heavy and bulky you can wear to work or when you do household chores. Having a weight vest doesn’t mean you have to use them in a workout routine to gain the strength benefits.

Wearing a weighted vest an hour or so a day will be enough to increase muscular strength. The extra weight from the vest will engage core strength which helps to strengthen your lower back also. If you are on your feet all day while wearing the vest it will increase leg strength also.

It is not really appropriate to wear a weighted vest if you have an office job, where you will be stationary and sitting down for most of the time. This can in fact hinder your posture which will cause problems down the line.

On the contrary if you walk to and from your office each day then who is to say you cannot wear the weighted vest during your walks to and from work. You will definitely reap the benefits of wearing a weight vest for this purpose, just remember to take the vest off during work.

Weighted Vest Workout

For those looking to purchase a weight vest for training purposes think about how you can implement the fitness vest into your training regime.

Weight vest training for speed is excellent and works magnificently. Increasing one’s speed plays a massive advantage for all sports. Sports like football, rugby and boxing for example benefits greatly if you as an individual become faster.

A great way to use the weight vest is by wearing them during your given sport. So playing football while wearing the vest will do wonders to your speed, agility and also improve your strength and stability.

One important thing to note is not to wear an overly heavy weight vest. You can start off light from 5kg and then increase in time with an adjustable weighted vest.

Using the weighted vests for body weight exercises will improve overall strength and speed. So exercises such as burpees, squats, lunges and sprinting would be ideal.

Now implementing the weighted vest for muscle growth or better known as bodybuilding is another great training tool.

So you can wear the vest during your pull-ups, sprints, dips etc. Doing pull-ups with a weight vest feels more natural to do rather than using a dumbbell wedged to your feet or using a dipping belt.

The reason why gym vests feel so natural is because the extra weight is distributed more evenly.

As result of the load being close to your body keeps all the weight closer to your centre of gravity. Having the weight to close to your centre of gravity makes it fee more natural and easier.

For people looking to make gains to their physiques at home, look no further. Weighted vests will add intensity to your workouts and will provide sufficient stimuli in order for your muscles to keep growing.

This RDX Weighted Jacket is fantastic. At first I was sincerely thinking that the jacket might be uncomfortable and might ultimately be used for limited training purposes. However, I was wrong, it is truthfully great Weighted Jacket; I personally use it for running and skipping most of the time, and it works perfectly – when you run, it sticks to your body perfectly, and does not get in your way during intense running; when I skip a rope with it, it stays on me without moving up and down.

The People who were making this jacket knew what they were doing! Worth buying it!!! I would recommend to all the athletes who like running with some resistance, after a while you gain so much endurance from using it, it is unbelievable 🙂

P.S. Just keep an eye on your knees and do not overdo it 🙂

Perfect for running in and training with for sports or sporting events of any kind! I go for a 3-mile run every week with this vest on and I haven’t found a thing wrong with it: it stays firmly in places without moving around whilst you’re running, breathing isn’t restricted, movements aren’t restricted, easy-to-change sand pouches that simply slide in and out of the jacket and straps that take no large amount of skill or effort to do-up and adjust.
