Folding Electric Treadmill Features
There are many features to understand before even considering to buy a treadmill. We have highlighted and explained all the features you need to know before purchasing.
First and foremost we believe that electric treadmills are best and do not recommend investing in a manual treadmill. You are better of going for run outside or buying an exercise bike rather than using a manual treadmill. Manual treadmills feel very unnatural and they do not promote healthy running habits which can lead to postural problems down the line.
Let us dive in and really understand what the features actually mean:
Average Rating
The average rating is the overall rating customers and consumers have given about this particular product. This also includes each individual customer review about the treadmill in terms of reliability and quality etc. From shopping experience consumer rating is absolutely vital.
Maximum Speed Limit/Speed Increment
The maximum speed limit for a treadmill is important for users at all fitness levels. The ‘Maximum Speed Limit’ is as the name suggests which means what is the fastest running speed the treadmill supports. At first glance you might think having a fast maximum speed isn’t important because you are not trying to train to become the new Usain Bolt. However even if you are just a novice your body adapts to your exercise regime very quickly. Which means the speed which you start with will not be the same in next coming weeks and then even months. Your body would have adapted within a few weeks of you running and in order to improve your fitness (increase cardiovascular fitness/loss nody fat) you have to increase your workout intensity. In other words increased speed and duration of your workout. Don’t buy for the present, buy for now and the future.
Countless studies have shown that it is optimal for improved fitness to train more intensely in a shorter duration rather than train for long periods of time with lower intensity (marathon runner).
‘Speed Increment’ is the level of speed increment you can change on the treadmill. The smaller the increment the better as this provides a more natural way of fitness progression.
Runaway Deck Size
The runaway deck size in the actual running space available for you to run on the treadmill. This is measured in centimetres by length and width. If you take big strides when you run then you will be looking for a longer runaway deck size in length. This also goes for those that have their feet quite wide apart when running so they will need a wider deck. Most importantly bigger users will require bigger running deck size, we recommend someone over 6 foot should use a deck size of a minimum: Length 120cm x Width 40cm.
Display
All of the treadmills on this table have displays but some have larger displays than others. The treadmill display will present the current speed in which you are running, time duration and distance of your overall session. Some displays will also allow the user to select preset workouts.
Heart Monitor
Tracking you heart rate is one of the most accurate ways to measure you running intensity. Of course you can gauge intensity by the amount of sweat you release or even how out of breath you feel, but heart rate is the most practical.
Speakers or Music Connection
The ability to add audio to the treadmill has become very popular mainly in mainstream gyms. For those that need music for additional motivation when running this feature is a must. The treadmills vary from the what device you can connect to it. You have mp3 which means audio in (aux in), iPhone/smartphone, USB and even bluetooth. Bluetooth is an excellent feature as one can listen to music with the built in speakers without the hassle of dangling cables.
Incline
Having the ability to put the treadmill at an incline position adds increased intensities which will lead to greater fitness benefits. These can include stronger ankles, calves, thighs and even glutes (butt muscles). Running at an incline will increase muscle development and also push your heart and respiratory system to work harder.
Emergency Stop
Almost all electric treadmills have an emergency stop feature. All the ones above have the emergency stop clip. You clip it during exercise to prevent flying from the treadmill due to fatigue or lack of concentration.
Additional Features
We are referring to any other feature not specified that makes the treadmill unique. You will find that some have better quality cushion which is safer absorption for your knees when running.

This treadmill works so well in a small space – at the end of my bed to be precise! The incline gives a little more to a workout and I’ve found the belt speeds to be just right for me. I’m not a runner so fast walking is the best for me. The machine is pretty quiet – I have the TV on when using it and find no problem listening to it. Folding it is very easy and it fits in very well, leaning up against a wall in my bedroom. My husband had no problems putting it together and I’m very pleased with both quality and price of this treadmill.
