How MyFitnessPal Has Changed Health and Fitness

What is MyFitnessPal?

MyFitnessPal is a fitness app that you can download on your smartphone (iOS and Android). The main purpose of MyFitnessPal is to track and keep a food dairy for the user. Keeping track of the food that you eat is only the most basic of functions that this app does for the user; there is so much more which I will elaborate in the course of this article.

How Much is the MyFitnessPal app?

MyFitnessPal doesn’t cost you a thing. If you have an Apple iPhone or any Android phone just download it free on the App Store or on Google Play. Then sign up which includes inputting your body measurements such as weight, height etc. and you are ready to go.

You can then set your personal fitness goals and the app will calculate and determine the amount of calories you need to consume to reach them. MyFitnessPal is almost like a mini-self nutritionist on your phone.

For example if your goal is to lose 5kg then the app will calculate based on your measurements, age, gender etc. and estimate the calories you should eat. What you will notice is that these calories will drop each day/week depending on how quick you want to reach your goal.

As you know the app is free and it is incredible the way it is, however there is a price for MyFitnessPal premium users. This includes:

Overall in my personal opinion is that you do not need to go premium to benefit from MyFitnessPal.

MyFitnessPal Counts Your Calories

If counting calories and keeping track of all your food in one place isn’t enough. MyFitnessPal helps you reach your fitness goals. As many of you should know by now that nutrition plays a massive role in determining how you look.

MyFitnessPal also tracks your macronutrients (macros) so that’s your protein, carbohydrates and fats. My manipulation the percentage in which you eat your macros will help you put on more muscle, shred fat and lose weight.

In addition to calories and macros the app also tracks sodium (salt) in food, fibre and sugars. These play a big part in maintaining a healthy body. Too much salt and too much sugar is a recipe for disaster.

This app makes it easy for even dummies (no offence intended). For someone that doesn’t have a clue about fats, proteins and carbohydrates then MyFitnessPal is the most ideal app. It will educate you but more important it will make your life easier in helping you achieve your ideal body weight.

To describe in the simplest way to lose fat, one must consume less calories than what the body needs. Using MyFitnessPal will track all the calories you eat as long as you scan the food. Hold up, what happens if it’s homemade food that you have eaten? No problem. MyFitnessPal has a massive database of what feels like all foods.

All you need to do is manually search the food item: “white rice” and “jerk chicken” and you can choose the most appropriate.

An important thing to notice is to be aware of portion size when you input your food data. The size of your food portion has direct effect on reaching your goals. You can also search food in smaller categories such as searching for chicken leg instead of just chicken.
